Family Update!

The last week has been absolutely insane. Yesterday, I was on a “happy hour” call (which, I hate that name, by the way) and I heard how many family is dealing with the quarantine. So people are happy for the quarantine. I had a family member say that she needed this, badly! She needed the break and says she is now thriving! Thriving! She’s outside all the time, she’s gardening, she’s taking walks. It’s all healthy and impressive stuff!

Conversely, there was an incident within my family. My aunt, when she was walking—maybe more strolling, when she tripped and fell on his wrist. Two bones in her arm snapped. Apparently, there was bone penetrating the skin. So, my other Aunt who was walking with her brought her to a hospital in Princeton. But only the patient was allowed in the emergency room. Of course, my uncle was out for a jog when this happened and it took 2 hours to contact him, and when he found out, he was told he couldn’t visit her in the hospital! Damn covid-19. So, she was scheduled for emergency surgery that evening and boy, was she in pain. Turns out she didn’t get the surgery until the next morning. This was only 3 days ago, mind you. On May 1st, I believe. Anyway, the surgury went well, from what my aunt said yesterday. She said she’s still in pain, which makes sense. I think she has fragile bones, maybe osteoporosis. She left the “happy hour” call yesterday because she was in pain. Which is unfortunate. I love my family, and seeing them hurt bothers me. But, it is what it is.

And apparently, there have been like 5 cases of Covid-19 at the senior living facility my grandpa is in. 2 residents have passed away from the disease, 2 are in the hospital, and one is in rehabilitation. Apparently, one of the employees got the disease and spread it. Now it’s all about containing the virus to keep the seniors safe. My closest friend, Jarek, who lives up in New York, works at a senior living facility. He said he’s tested every day for the virus before he’s allowed to work. So, we’re hoping the best for him and that he and his co-workers stay healthy for the sake of the residents. Of course, we’re hoping the best for my grandpa too. I believe he’s 88 and we want him to be sticking around!

My other grandparents on my dad’s side of the family are doing well. We hear little from my grandma—mainly because literally nothing new is happening to her. She has an aid coming in for my other grandpa. He’s not doing too well. He’s in his 90s and he’s reached the stage of his life where he just stares into the distance. That, and he eats. Man, does he have a stomach of steel. He’s having trouble chewing, but he gets his food down. He’s fragile, but still hanging in there.

Apparently, there has been some bickering between my cousin and my uncle. I guess being quarantined together is starting to get to them. I don’t know what the argument was about but I’d imagine it was bound to happen at some point. But they seemed fine on the phone call, so I’m sure they’ve mended things.

I am wrapping up all my courses. I just finished my final project and reflection for Rhetorics of Style. Great course! Highly recommend it to all writers, it changes you and your style of writing, whether conscious or not, aware or not, it will challenge your literary voice. I plan on practicing all the things we learned over the summer. I’m still going to be playing with sentences and keeping it real! When I’m not reading comics, I’ll be either working at Chipotle or writing! When I get reading my writing should flow more fluidly. Right now it’s like molasses coming out of my brain. Oh, and by the way, that’s right, I applied to get my job back at Chipotle. Do I want to work there? Not really? But can I? Of course, but only for the money.

I can’t wait to have money again! Probs gonna drop a lot on comics. Mostly like Jonah Hex comics and the Justice Society of America comics. Probably buy some more statues of my heroes. I was looking at a Vixen statue the other day. She’s a cool JLA member. I also want a supergirl statue. AND when tattoo parlors finally open again, I’m definately getting my ears pierced again. I want double hoops on both sides. I can’t wait for that! I’mma look so sexy with all my gold earrings. The hype is real!

So, that’s about all I have to report. The family could be doing better, but our spirits are still high. We’ll get through another week. Of course, I’ll blog before that week is over, but until then, I hope everyone else is getting along alright during the Covid-19 pandemic!
