Doctor who alerted Chinese Government of Coronavirus outbreak died of disease.

(The Guardian)

The Coronavirus is a deadly disease which has been spreading through China at an alarming rate. Recent reports suggest the death toll has passed over 1,000 Chinese citizens, as of 11 February 2020. Thousands more have been infected by the viral pneumonia. And recent reports say one of the doctors who blew the whistle about the Coronavirus in China has died from the disease.

According to reports, Dr. Li Wenliang was the doctor who first found the disease in his patients and told the government, and was later arrested for spreading rumors about the disease. These reports come from Aljazeera, a news organization partialy funded by the Qatar government, which is a country in the middle-east.

But are they true?

Turning to DuckDuckGo and using the multi-search function, I searched for confirmation that there was a Dr. Le Wenliang and that he, infact, had been one of the first doctors to discover the disease. I found a confirmation from Snopes, which essentially lays out that Le Wenlaing was a doctor in China who was arrested by police for speaking about the virus. It also confirmed his death at the age of 34.

With one confirmation of this story, a few more articles should corroborate this story. Snopes has another article which involve Dr. Wenliang.

While this does give more information Dr. Wenlaing’s role in the Coronavirus outbreak, we still need more sources. A wikipedia search indicates Dr. Wenlaing was the doctor who blew the whistle on the disease; additionally, by going up stream, we find references to articles from NBC News (https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/doctor-punished-coronavirus-warnings-dies-disease-who-confirms-n1131556), BBC News (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-51403795), and United Daily News (in chinese) https://udn.com/news/story/120944/4329485. The World Health Organization, an organization tasked with monitoring global public health, also spoke about Dr. Wenlaing on their twitter page, thus confirming definitely that Dr. Wenliang was a Doctor and that he was in fact one of the first whistle blowers during the 2019-2020 World Health.

Another specific question to be addressed is if Wenlaing was actually arrested by the chinese government for whistle blowing. For this, I look back to previously used documents and articles. All of which confirm there was some sort of legal squabble between Dr. Wenliang and the government.
